Frequently Asked Questions
Below you will find some frequently asked questions from childcare settings about participating in the iKids study.
We don’t use tablets and smartphones in our childcare setting. Can my setting still take part?
Yes, your setting can still take part. We do not require settings to use tablets or smartphones to participate in the study. For data collection we will bring iPads to complete the assessments of children’s emerging abilities.
Do children need to use tablets and smartphones to take part in the study?
No, children do not need to use tablets or smartphones to participate. We are interested in children who both use and do not use these devices.
I don’t have any children who are 3 right now in my care, can I still take part?
If you have children that will turn 3 years old between February 2025 to February 2026 then your setting can take part in the study.
The three year olds in our setting will move to a different setting before the follow-up data collection. Can my setting still take part?
Yes, your setting can still participate. Before conducting follow-up data collection, we will contact parents to confirm whether children have changed settings. If they have, we will reach out to the new settings to complete the follow-up measurements there. Additionally, we may provide your setting with a letter for the new setting, informing them of the child’s participation in the iKids study, and request that you include this letter in the child’s transition pack.
Will you share the findings from the study with us?
Yes, we will prepare newsletters and infographics to summarize the study’s results. These materials will be distributed to all participating settings to share with their staff and parents.
